The search for the missing UMass Dartmouth University track star, Flordan “Flo” Bazile, has ended tragically as police recovered his body in a river. This devastating news was announced in an email sent to students by school officials.

Recovery of Bazile's Body

After extensive water and ground searches, the 21-year-old Bazile was found in a Massachusetts river on Tuesday night. No foul play is suspected, and Bazile’s death is being considered a suicide, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office as reported by NBC 10.

Last Known Sighting

The sophomore track star was last seen around 2 a.m. on Monday at UMass Dartmouth’s main campus at Pine Dale Hall dormitories.

Search Efforts

UMass Dartmouth Police conducted thorough searches across the Fairhaven area for over a day. Eventually, Bazile’s body was found in the Acushnet River, approximately 7 miles away from the dorm.

The Acushnet River, where Bazile's body was discovered, is the largest river in southern Massachusetts, stretching at 8.6 miles long.

He held the school record for the 100-meter dash and received prestigious accolades, including being named the 2024 Little East Conference Track Athlete and Track Rookie Athlete of the Week.
