His return to the Giants will see him serving as a special assistant to president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and CEO Larry Baer.

The 74-year-old Baker retired from the Houston Astros after the 2023 season, culminating a remarkable 26-year career as a major league manager. During his tenure with the Giants, Cubs, Reds, Nationals, and Astros, Baker amassed an impressive 2,183-1,862 managerial record and secured a long-awaited World Series title with the Astros in 2022.
Rekindling Relationships
Although his departure from the Giants in 2002 was tumultuous, Baker's return to the organization seems like a natural fit. Over time, he has mended relationships in San Francisco, with the Giants even allowing him the flexibility to attend his son Darren's college games at the University of California, Berkeley. Furthermore, Baker maintains a residence in Granite Bay, outside Sacramento, where he enjoys tending to his garden and cultivating grapes for his own wine.
