
Celebrated Author Terry McMillan Partners with Lifetime for Original Movies

Renowned author Terry McMillan, known for her bestsellers How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale, has joined forces with Lifetime to produce a series of new original movies under the banner 'Terry McMillan Presents.' These forthcoming movies, yet to be announced, will center on the love and lives of African American women.
Previous Collaboration with Lifetime
Lifetime has previously collaborated with McMillan on the 2014 television movie, A Day Late and a Dollar Short. The film featured a star-studded cast including Whoopi Goldberg, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, Tichina Arnold, and Ving Rhames.

Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP and Head of Programming at A&E, Lifetime, and LMN, expressed her excitement about the partnership, referring to McMillan as 'an American treasure' for her ability to authentically capture the female experience in finding love and happiness. She anticipates that the new movies will strongly resonate with Lifetime's viewers.

McMillan, a No. 1 New York Times bestselling author, has penned 12 highly acclaimed books, including the aforementioned bestsellers Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back, both of which were adapted into major motion pictures. Her literary career began with the novel 'Mama,' which earned her the Doubleday New Voices Award and The American Book Award. Her second book, 'Disappearing Acts,' was transformed into an HBO film in 2000. In 2020, she released her latest book, 'It’s Not All Downhill From Here.'
